Permission to Catch Your Breath

by Joan C Webb on September 22, 2012

Tomorrow morning I’m going to the Grand Canyon with my husband, Richard. A little GET-AWAY so we can catch our breath and be inspired by God’s creativity. We’ll be back home Sunday night and at work on Monday morning. Short trip!

This spur of the moment trip comes right after friend and author Diane Markins tagged me on Facebook and asked, “Is resting as hard for you as it is for me?”

My inward response, “Ah, probably so.” And then I posted, “Yes, sometimes it’s hard to take a real rest, isn’t it? Even when we pause to rest on the outside, our minds and hearts race on. Perhaps it’s our “shoulds” that keep us going past our reasonable human limits. Maybe we’ve taught others that we’re super-women–willing, skilled and available to make life easier for them. If that’s the case, it’s unlikely someone else will suggest we relax. But I now believe that God grants us permission to take responsibility for our own “rest needs” regardless of what others say. Makes me smile.”

Hmmmm. I think I’ll do a lot of smiling this weekend. (I might even take a bunch of photos! Love looking at God’s gorgeous artwork!)

What are you doing this weekend that will make you smile?

My bestie’s husband sent me a plane ticket to spend the weekend at the Ritz for her birthday. Tired, semi-sick and in need of another employee at work, I am having a restful, fun, healing weekend.

Oh, Sasha, what a smile-producing gift you were given. I hope you had a truly restful, fun, healing weekend. :-) Thanks for taking the time to share.

I look forward to seeing your pictures, Joan, if you decide to take some. I found the Grand Canyon to be such a place of wonder. It took my breath away…in the very best sense of the word.

Resting doesn’t come easy for me. Even when I’m not moving my brain is always thinking. Sometimes I wish I had an “off switch.” I suppose learning to be quiet is a discipline or art. Either way, I’m working on it…slowly.

Your post inspires me to bring out my camera and find something to capture. Perhaps I’ll even take a walk through the neighborhood.

Enjoy your short trip.

Hi Melinda! What fun photo did you take today? You’re a pro-photographer, to be sure. Since I’m not on FB or Twitter as much I don’t see your lovely pix.
Well, I put some pix of my last weekend’s Grand Canyon trip on a blog today. Did you see it? There’s more, but I didn’t have time to post them.
I’m going to Breckenridge, CO on Thursday. Hope to get some other pix of God’s brilliance.
Hope you have a good week.
