When our internal motors rev up, we have a hard time turning them off.  Sleep may elude us because our racing mental engines won&#8217;t slow down. Our heavenly Father knew we might have a tendency to hurry through life and miss the silent joy, so He said, <span style="background-color: #ffff99;">&#8220;Be still, and know that I am God.&#8221;</span></p>
<p><span style="background-color: #ffff99;">Current scientific research</span> agrees that quieting the mind and body can calm the sympathetic nervous system, cause heart rate and <span style="background-color: #ffff99;">blood pressure to drop, and tense muscles to relax.</span> Redford Williams, M.D., director of the Behavioral Medicine Research Center at Duke University, says, &#8220;Withdrawing from problems and calming your mind can calm the body, blunting the adrenaline surge.&#8221;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.joancwebbblog.com/wp-content/uploads/Joan-praying-by-creek-Sedona-trip-May-30-31-20094.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-1527 alignright" title="Joan praying by creek Sedona trip May 30-31 2009" src="http://www.joancwebbblog.com/wp-content/uploads/Joan-praying-by-creek-Sedona-trip-May-30-31-20094.jpg" alt="Joan praying by creek Sedona trip May 30-31 2009" width="246" height="184" /></a>I want that&#8211;to untie the knots in my muscles. But even more I want to know God&#8211;and just sit still with Him. <span style="background-color: #ffff99;">I think <a href="http://www.contemplativeoutreach.org/site/DocServer/MethodCP2008.pdf?docID=121">Centering Prayer</a> (CP) might be a way to experience both of my desires. I&#8217;ve enjoyed CP before, but lately&#8230; Well, let&#8217;s just say, &#8220;Not so much.&#8221; </span></p>
<p>As I contemplate my dreams for this next year, I want Centering Prayer to be a part. <span style="background-color: #ffff99;">Do you want to join me? If like me, you&#8217;re interested in living a calmer life in the midst of our culture&#8217;s maxed-out reality, <a href="http://www.contemplativeoutreach.org/site/DocServer/MethodCP2008.pdf?docID=121">click and read this CP information/explanation</a>&#8211;and tell me what you think.</span></p>
<p><span style="background-color: #ffff99;"> </span>I sense God encouraging me to work less, relax more, and reach out with love. I know it will be an imperfect process, but I&#8217;m committed to it. How about you?</p>

The NHF suggests that <span style="background-color: #ffff99;">&#8220;learning to live one day at a time&#8221;</span> may relieve anxiety that contributes to the pain and inconvenience of muscle-contraction headaches.</p>
<p><strong>GUEST BLOGGER:</strong> I&#8217;ve invited <span style="background-color: #ffff99;">Jesus, well-known speaker/teacher, artist and savior of the world to be my </span><span style="background-color: #ffff99;">guest blogger</span> today. He recommends a similar philosophy which he highlighted in one of his spontaneous presentations and reiterates here:</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; text-align: left; tabstops: 19px;" align="left"><span style="font-size: small;"><strong><em> </em></strong></span></p>
<div id="attachment_1272" class="wp-caption alignleft" style="width: 150px">

<p><strong><em>“If God gives such attention to the appearance of <span style="background-color: #ffff99;">wildflowers&#8230;</span>don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is <span style="background-color: #ffff99;">to get you to relax. &#8230;</span></em><em><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="background-color: #ffff99;">Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. &#8230;</span></span></em><em><span style="font-size: small;">Give your entire attention to what God is doing <span style="background-color: #ffff99;">right now</span>, and <span style="background-color: #ffff99;">don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow.</span> God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.&#8221; (Matthew 6:30-34 The Message)</span></em></strong></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;"><strong><em> </em></strong><span>Another journalist reported Jesus&#8217; message in a slightly different way: <em>&#8220;<span style="background-color: #ffff99;">So don&#8217;t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will brings its own worries. Today&#8217;s trouble is enough for today.&#8221;</span> (Matt. 6:34 NLT)</em></span></span></p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; text-align: left; tabstops: 19px;" align="left"><span style="font-size: small;">I realize that the elimination of all stress is impossible in this imperfect world. Yet, I do find it encouraging that <span style="background-color: #ffff99;">intentionally living &#8220;one day at a time&#8221; can alleviate </span>the pain of my overly-tight muscles. <em>(Well, that&#8217;s an understatement!&#8221;)</em></span></p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; text-align: left; tabstops: 19px;" align="left"><span style="font-size: small;"><em><br />
 </em></span></p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; text-align: left; tabstops: 19px;" align="left"><span style="font-size: small;"><em><strong>Thank you to Jesus Christ, the Son of God, for contributing to my blog today. What&#8217;s your response to his advice?</strong></em></span></p>

<p> <i><span style="color: rgb(0, 153, 0);font-family:Arial;" >Thanks for caring so much and pursuing me, Lord, even when I ruminate, run, and isolate. Tonight I&#8217;m praying like author Ken Gire (<b>Reflections on the Word</b>) did when he wrote, &#8220;My hope, O God, my only hope, is that you are more persistent in your seeking than I am in my hiding.&#8221; You are, indeed. Now I&#8217;m going back to sleep.</span></i></p>
